Aluminium: Aluminium is regularly used in aircraft, cars and buildings. This type of metal is lightweight, corrosion-resistant and can become hard and rigid when mixed with other alloys.
Brass: Brass is commonly used in bearings, gears, musical instruments and jewellery and is an alloy of copper and zinc. This type of metal is strong and durable but also very malleable, corrosion resistant and will never spark due to its low friction coefficient.
Bronze: This type of metal is commonly alloyed with copper and tin and is used across a broad range of applications, from sculptures and electrical connectors to mirrors and ship fittings. While stronger than copper, brass is corrosion-resistant and has lower thermal and electrical conductivity.
Copper: Copper is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity and is regularly used in electrical circuits, plumbing and cooking utensils. This type of metal is soft and malleable and can easily be rolled or drawn into wires.
Lead: Lead can be found in water pipes, car batteries, buildings and bridge linings. This type of metal is heavy in weight, with a low melting point. It is easily cut and occasionally added to copper alloys to make them easier to cut.

Household products:
Common household items and products that are made from recycled scrap metal include lighting, hardware fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and furnishings.
Retail packaging:
A large quantity of retail packaging comes from recycled scrap metal. Examples include food packaging, like aluminum and tin cans for food and soda.
Industrial and manufacturing:
Industrial and manufacturing goods are often made from recycled metal. Examples include cars, planes, appliances, industrial containers, building materials, plumbing components, and even ductwork.
Collection: The process of scrap metal recycling begins at its sources. Various industrial processes are a constant source of clean scrap metal, known as busheling. The latter is the leftover from manufacturing processes like stamping and forming.
Sorting: Ferrous and non-ferrous metals each have their dedicated recycling processes. It is important to sort them out beforehand. Techniques vary by scale. Shops that disassemble and process electronics, for example, have teams of workers that sort metal types.
Processing: Regardless of the type of initial collection point, scrap metal invariably goes to scrap yards.
Modern scrap yards typically feature one or two shredders at the heart of their operation. These shredders are large and complex and typically integrate a number of processes. Scrap is fed to the shredders, after which ferrous and non-ferrous metals are separated from non-metallic scrap.
Purification: Scrap metal invariably contains impurities that can affect the strength of materials. These impurities are removed. Solidifying and transportation: Once a batch of molten scrap metal is deemed to meet quality and purity specifications, it is then cast and solidified.
